BIOL 336 - The Molecular Biology of Infectious Disease CR: 3 Prerequisites: BIOL 205 and CHEM 231 . We will explore the diverse mechanisms that pathogenic micoorganisms use to cause diseases in hosts, emphasizing those that cause disease in humans. Throughout the course, we will discuss modern techniques used to study pathogens, focusing on the molecular interactions between host and pathogen that result in disease symptoms. Finally, we will discuss the human microbiome to highlight beneficial interactions between microbes and humans. Offered alternate years.
