Do you love music? Do you want to know more about how music works and what it means to the people who make or listen to it? Through an introduction to a wide array of basic musical concepts and skills, this course provides the foundation in musicianship that you will need to better engage with your musical world. Topics include fundamental study in tonality, music notation, music technology, understanding music in historical and cultural context, composition, improvisation, conducting, and more. This course will regularly incorporate the analysis of works of visual art and film in order to illuninate aspects of musical style and creative processes.
