THTR 231 - Screenwriting CR: 3 This course will address the fundamentals of writing for film and television, with an emphasis on structure and contemporary practice. What does it mean to create a narrative primarily through the construction and manipulation of the visual image? How do screenwriters use character, dialogue, plot, and specific genre cues to tell compelling stories? We will consider a variety of theoretical approaches to cinema and closely analyze key screenplays and films. Weekly writing workshops will culminate in the creation of a screenplay for a short film or pilot. Offered alternate years.
