Art History Track
The art history track allows students to explore and critically analyze a wide variety of images and objects from around the world in their historical and cultural contexts. Students will have access to Sweet Briar’s collection and opportunities for travel both in the United States and abroad.

If you are interested in pursuing graduate or professional programs for art history, the following courses are recommended in addition to the requirements listed above:
Studio Art Track
The studio art track helps students develop their skills and creative expression culminating in an exhibition in a Sweet Briar gallery. Students benefit from Sweet Briar’s partnership with the neighboring Virginia Center for the Creative Arts (VCCA), an internationally renowned artists’ community for the visual, literary and performing arts.

Choose one Art History course
Choose one course in four of the following areas for breadth:
Choose one course in each of four of the following areas for breadth (total 12 credits):
- Clay
- Drawing
- Painting
- Photography
- Printmaking
Choose two additional courses:
Choose two courses (6 credits) at the 300-level in one of the above areas for depth.
Choose one of the following courses:
VART 115 or 116 (whichever was not taken as a required course) or any VART Art History Special Topics course for which the student is elignle.
