BIOL 305 - Genetics CR: 3 Prerequisite: BIOL 112 , CHEM 131 , and one additional BIOL course at the 200-level. This course will explore how nucleic acids, including DNA and several classes of RNA, interact with each other and various other cellular components to perform cellular tasks. The course is heavily focused on interactions between these two classes of nucleic acids and proteins at the molecular level. Topics may include the structure and function of DNA and RNA, DNA replication, transcription, translation, control of gene expression in both prokaryotes and eukaryotes, mutations and repair of mutations, DNA sequencing, patterns of inheritance, pedigree analysis, and the genetics of cancer.
