This course introduces the concept of performance as an interdisciplinary mode of artistic creation, as well as a lens through which to view the world. The course is a laboratory in which each student will create new solo and collaborative performance work grounded in the study of theoretical writing on performance in the fields of theatre, music, and dance. Topics include the sociology of performance, performance and race, gender, and sexual identity, as well as the history of 20th and 21st century performance art practice. This course counts for CORE 150.
